Where the clinic,
the consumer,
the P&L line up.

Health is Nextwave X Partners’ broadest theme — life sciences, biotech, oncology, obesity, women’s health, and the operator surface that connects them. Our health theme is co-founded by Chuck Ryan, MD — the GU oncologist who directed the abiraterone (Zytiga) development program, ran the Prostate Cancer Foundation, and now leads 1:8 Ventures with us. Around him: KOLs across cancer, obesity, and women’s health, a live health-summit engagement layer, and the full spectrum of positions from LP to advisory to direct.

Theme co-founder

The rarest kind of operator: the one who wrote the standard of care.

Most oncology theme leaders are financial. NXP’s Health theme is co-founded by the physician-scientist who ran the pivotal program and led the foundation.

Three physicians, three different lenses on care.

Health is not a single specialty. NXP’s KOL bench spans oncology, obesity medicine, and women’s health — the three surfaces of health where category economics are being redrawn right now.

The 1:8 cancer KOLs.

GU oncology, prostate cancer, and the broader oncology bench behind the 1:8 Ventures platform.

The full cancer KOL roster — clinicians, principal investigators, and category advisors — lives on the 1:8 Ventures site. Every cancer position under NXP Health is filtered through this bench.

JO
02 · Community + entrepreneurial

Joanna — community practice, obesity front lines.

Community-practice physician on the worst epidemic of our era — and an entrepreneur inside the specialty.

The community-medicine vantage point. Joanna sees the obesity epidemic as it actually presents in day-to-day practice — GLP-1 access, adherence, insurance friction, patient education, and the long tail after the prescription. Uniquely instructive because she has been on the entrepreneurial side too, having developed a product idea inside the specialty. Community-practice reality plus operator lens on the largest single-condition category in modern medicine.

ME
03 · Corporate + concierge

Meagan — corporate concierge to full-spectrum women’s health.

Built the corporate-concierge muscle at One Medical inside SpaceX. Now running a full-spectrum women’s-health practice, with a deep focus on peri- and menopause.

The corporate + concierge vantage point. Meagan built the concierge and on-site primary-care model through One Medical at SpaceX — direct exposure to how one of the most demanding employers in the world buys and manages healthcare. She now runs a full-spectrum women’s-health practice centered on peri- and menopause care — the category most underinvested and being remade fastest. Employer economics plus underserved-category clinical leadership under one KOL.

How this theme is built

Evidence and vehicle, together.

One section instead of two. Each row is a piece of the operating and clinical experience we’re building the Health theme on — and the vehicle that experience now travels through. The evidence and the engagement mechanism, side by side, so an LP or partner can see both at once instead of flipping between a track-record page and a spectrum page.

NXP Health Innovations Summit

The live NXP convening surface for the health theme — patients, clinicians, operators, and capital in one room. The engagement layer that grounds every downstream position.

Indirect via fund positions

Two sides of the same indirect-access pattern. As LP in Freeflow Ventures, NXP has exposure to a bench of category-relevant companies we can now surface under NXP Health — Vivere Oncotherapies (cancer immunotherapy, UC Berkeley), Laguna Bio (γδ T-cell activator for pediatric leukemia, FDA IND cleared), Tipping Point Biosciences (women’s health), and Iambic Therapeutics (AI-driven small-molecule drug discovery). And as GP-side Venture Advisor, hands-on diligence for the fund that backed VeriSIM Life — one of the reference companies in AI-native drug discovery. Same access pattern from both sides of the table.

PIs on Standards of Care

Chuck and the 1:8 cancer KOL bench have collectively touched roughly half of the modern prostate-cancer standard of care as principal investigators and pivotal-trial leads — including PI leadership on abiraterone acetate (Zytiga), one of the defining approvals in metastatic prostate cancer and now first-line standard of care. Not adjacent to the standard, and not commenting on it — the people who ran the trials that set it.

CROs — twice over

Two independent CRO relationships stacked under this theme — both ends of the pipeline. On the bench side, an NXP founder began his career as an analytical chemist doing method development inside a CRO that was then acquired as Eurofins’ entry into the U.S. market. Sponsor-facing work included programs for Pharmacia & Upjohn and Eli Lilly, and the CRO’s exit anchored the whole life-sciences services stack. On the clinical side, NXP’s active relationship with the Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials Consortium (PCCTC) through Chuck — the oncology-CRO network coordinating the multi-site pivotal trials that actually set the standard of care.

Life Sciences at IBM — tech stack strategy

Strategy work on the life-sciences technology stack inside IBM — the pharma-innovation infrastructure layer (data platforms, informatics, enterprise IT into biopharma) that later informed our AI/data thesis under NXP Health. Direct sponsor-facing work on the Genentech account — one of the reference customers for enterprise IT into biotech, and one of the earliest exposures to what a genomics-native pipeline actually needs from an infrastructure partner.

Corp Strategy & Development at Eli Lilly

Corporate-strategy and corp-dev work inside big pharma, at exactly the moments the industry was being restructured. The formative assignment was inside Eli Lilly at the height of the Prozac patent cliff — one of the defining LOE events in pharma history, and directly instructive to the industry-wide patent cliff Pharma is navigating today. The lens that sits under every position NXP takes in this cycle: how big pharma actually rebuilds a pipeline when the current book of business is going generic, and where the outside capital, licensing, and M&A conversations actually land.

What we’re building

Three vehicles carrying the Health theme right now.

Everything above becomes the raw material under these three vehicles. Each one is live today, has a real front door, and takes a different kind of partner from the same LP/GP/operator table.
